Should Rajon Rondo be suspended for bumping official? [Video]

April 30, 2012|By Chuck Schilken

Rajon Rondo didn't mean to bump into an official -- he may have even tripped into him. At least, that's his side of the story in the aftermath of the crazy finish to the Boston Celtics' 83-74 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night.

Whether Rondo's chest bump of official Marc Davis was intentional or not, the Celtics may be facing Game 2 of their opening round NBA playoff series without their star point guard. David Stern is not known for taking it easy on players who make contact with officials, but Boston Coach Doc Rivers said he feels the commissioner might make an exception in Rondo's case.

“I'm always worried, but I would be surprised if that happens,” Rivers said of a suspension. “I thought Rondo was walking toward Marc, and Marc turned back toward him, and that's when Rondo bumped him. … That's all it was, in my opinion. But we'll see.”

Rondo tells a similar version of what happened after he received a technical for arguing a call on Boston teammate Brandon Bass with 41 seconds remaining and the Celtics trailing by four points.

“Obviously I was upset about the call and I said some words to Marc. I deserved the first tech,” said Rondo, who was ejected from the game. “As I was walking, I thought he stopped. My momentum carried me into him. I even think I tripped on his foot.”

Take a look at the video and let us know what you think. Does Rondo deserve to be suspended for his actions or was the ejection enough? Vote in the poll and leave a comment explaining why you voted the way you did.
