L.A. police are investigating death threats that were sent to actress Ellen… (Karen Tapia-Andersen )
Death threats tweeted at Ellen Page are under investigation by Los Angeles police, who have sought a search warrant for account-tracing information from Twitter.
"I'm going to murder Ellen Page. She's dead," an unidentified user wrote, according to L.A. Now.
Another message, reported by TMZ, indicated jealousy as a possible motive. (The “Inception" actress was photographed leaving a Kings game with Alexander Skarsgard in June.)
"Ellen Page," the threat read, "if you continue to date Alexander I will K-1-L-L you in public in the next year ... Be it in a club, at a game, in a restaurant, or when you're signing autographs."
The tweets, possibly sent from two accounts, have since been deleted.
LAPD Threat Management Unit detectives started investigating the messages in June, LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman told L.A. Now. Around the same time, organizers of the L.A. Film Festival, which screened the premiere of Page’s latest flick “To Rome With Love,” received threatening calls targeting the actress.
Page, who has more than 340,000 Twitter followers, is the latest victim of celebrity cyber-bullying. Selena Gomez received a nasty string of death threats after pap photos showed her smooching Justin Bieber. And earlier this year, Miley Cyrus spoke out against social media death threats:
"I wont tolerate someone telling me 2 die," Cyrus wrote. "Twitter needs to take some responsibility and make it a safe environment."
