London Olympics: Larry the Donkey is still making predictions

August 11, 2012|By Lisa Dillman

Larry the Donkey.

The Telegraph newspaper has been having a donkey make predictions about various Olympic events, including the men's 400-meter relay later on Saturday at Olympic Stadium.

Saturday's question: "Does Larry think Team GB (Great Britain) will complete the relay without dropping the baton?"

(Good question, that. Four years ago, the U.S. men and women dropped the baton on their respective relays on the very same night in Beijing.)

Larry, apparently, does not have much faith in the lads.

The Telegraph says that Larry lives in a modest stable in East London "where his soothsaying abilities are neither scorned nor feared by its receptive, liberal residents."

There is no explanation on how he got his name.

Now, with one day left in the Games, Larry will be free to expand his global reach for other pressing sports questions, for instance, will the Lakers and Dwight Howard reach the NBA Final next season?

Or will they drop the baton?
