Here's a status update: Architect Frank Gehry has been tapped to design an extension of Facebook's new campus in Menlo Park, Calif.
Plans for the Silicon Valley site, which will be submitted Monday, will include a 420,000-square-foot, single-story warehouse topped with a garden that will span the entire roof.
Facebook's environmental design manager, Everett Katigbak, first met with Gehry a few months ago at the architect's Los Angeles offices.
"Frank has taken into account our engineering culture," Katigbak wrote in blog post. "The raw, unfinished look of our buildings means we can construct them quickly and with a big emphasis on being eco-friendly."
The minimalist building will be dotted with a series of cafes and micro-kitchens, and instead of cubicles or corner offices, the one-room structure will feature work stations for as may as 2,800 software engineers, which can be broken apart and shuffled around depending on project needs, Katigbak wrote.
