Add "lame duck" to what is increasingly becoming a lame Rose Bowl matchup.
The Associated Press is reporting that Wisconsin Coach Bret Bielema has accepted the coaching position at Arkansas.
Wow, could this Rose Bowl get any stranger? Wisconsin is unranked and enters the Jan. 1 game with a bowl-record five losses. The Badgers are in the Rose Bowl only because Ohio State and Penn State were ineligible this season because of NCAA violations.
Bielema was 68-24 in seven seasons and led Wisconsin to Rose Bowl losses each of the last two seasons. At Arkansas, Bielema would replace John L. Smith, the team's interim coach during a disastrous 4-8 season in which the Razorbacks started in the top 10. Smith had replaced Bobby Petrino, who was fired last spring after becoming embroiled in a scandal that involved a mistress and a motorcycle.
It has not been determined whether Bielema will coach Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.
As of this writing, David Shaw is still Stanford's coach.
It is only Dec. 4, though, so stay tuned.
