Nick Lachey seems like such a nice guy. But he is also a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan, so he might have built up a lot of frustration over the years.
And he might be a bit sensitive about his former boy band.
The ex-98 Degrees singer was thrown out of the Bengals-Chargers game in San Diego on Sunday after what was at the very least an altercation with another, unidentified fan.
Lachey first reported the incident on Twitter: "Just got kicked out of the chargers stadium and couldn't be prouder! Go Cincy Bengals!"
Lachey tweeted more the next day: "Majority of charger fans were awesome yesterday, thanks for the hospitality! Sadly, there is always one guy that ruins it for everyone...."
But then TMZ got hold of the story, first reporting that Lachey was kicked out for talking too much smack, prompting Lachey to take to Twitter again: "For the record, i was not kicked out of the chargers game for excessive 'trash talking'. no, that honor belonged to the guy in front of me!"
TMZ later posted another story in which the still-unnamed Chargers fan said Lachey used a profane slur against his wife after she insulted his former band, then later tried to choke him. The website also posted a blurry video that supposedly shows at least part of the alleged incident.
A representative for Lachey told TMZ: "“This was a verbal exchange between sports fans of opposing teams that went too far. While Nick isn't proud of what happened, he did not choke anyone or use defamatory language to any women at the stadium -- which the videotape clearly supports."
Lachey via Twitter again: "i simply don't appreciate someone turning around and putting their finger in my face. call me crazy, but that deserved a reaction."
He added: "again, aside from a few exceptions, i had a great time hanging with Charger fans all afternoon. honestly, some of the nicest fans around."
See, Lachey really is a nice guy. Just don't insult his Bengals ... or his boy band.
