Grammys 2013: Join our discussion of the nominations

December 06, 2012|By Scott Sandell

The Grammy nominations threw a change-up Wednesday night, with indie-rock trio Fun. and R&B/hip-hop star Frank Ocean grabbing six nominations each, mostly in the top Grammy Awards categories.

The two acts will compete for album of the year alongside the Black Keys, Jack White and Mumford & Sons.

Without one artist dominating the nominations like Adele did last year or legacy acts like Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay, the nominations were spread among a broad spectrum of performers.

Meanwhile, Justin Bieber -- one of the biggest stars in pop, whose album "Believe" was acclaimed for its vocal virtuosity and sonic maturation -- found himself shut out by the Recording Academy.

So what does it all mean as we head toward the 55th Grammy Awards being handed out Feb. 10 in Los Angeles? Join Times staff writers Gerrick Kennedy and Todd Martens for a Google+ Hangout at 10:30 a.m. Thursday right here.
