Watch the worst free throw ever

December 10, 2012|By Chuck Schilken

It was the worst free throw ever.

Apologies to Appalachian State center Brian Okam. We know that sounds rather harsh.

You could very well be a nice person. You might be a decent basketball player. You are definitely very tall.

Hopefully you have a good sense of humor.

Otherwise, you are probably pretty embarrassed by the video of your mind-boggling free throw attempt against Western Carolina University on Sunday that has been viewed nearly 3 million times on YouTube.

Maybe it will be a good thing. McKayla Maroney is now a household name after the world saw her "not impressed" moment on the podium. And look how Peter McNeeley profited in the aftermath of his quick knockout at the hands of Mike Tyson.

(OK, maybe you don't want to follow the McNeeley route.)

Anyway, Brian, we know you have attempted only five free throws all season (and made two) and 22 (and made 12) in your three-year collegiate career, which includes a season at Rutgers.

So maybe you were a bit rusty when you launched the shot that made one of the TV announcers comment, "I'm not sure what that was."

We know exactly what it was. Sorry, Brian, but it was the worst free throw ever.
