Snow carvers from around the world will call North Lake Tahoe home Feb. 8-13, for the first-ever Carve Tahoe competition. For details, click here www.carvetahoe.com . . . . Writing workshops, daily readings and other gatherings by screenwriters, songwriters, playwrights and poets will be featured at the Ojai WordFest, April 6-13. Info: www.ojaivisitors.com . . . . Look for lots of ski deals, now until Christmas. Big Bear’s midweek lift and lodging packages start as low as $69 per person per night, double occupancy. Farther away, Montana’s Big Sky Resort is inviting unlimited pass holders at any resort in the world to ski for free, now through Christmas Day . . . . Jason Tuley has opened his newest restaurant, Anchor Woodfire Kitchen, at Hotel Indigo Santa Barbara, 119 State St.  . . . . Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley launches a new restaurant – Mountain Pizzeria – Dec.  22. The slope-side eatery will be open all winter season for lunch and après ski . . . . Santa will be in the Village at Squaw Valley on Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. . . . . Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco has designed the “Romance Package" for New Year’s Eve or any other special occasion. Starting at only $179, the package includes accommodations for two, breakfast, a  bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries. The package is available through Valentine’s Day.
