Toddlers & Tiaras: The unscripted child-beauty-pageant series resumes with "Carolina Queens Pageant" (9 p.m. TLC).

40 Greatest Hip Hop Songs of the '90s:  This mini-series countdown premieres with two new episodes (9 and 10 p.m. VH1).

Chicago Fire: The holiday is hardly dull for the firefighters in this new episode where following a kitchen blaze in a swanky home an expensive necklace is missing and the rescuers are suspect. Jesse Spencer, David Eigenberg, Lauren German and Taylor Kinney star (10 p.m. NBC).

Cheer Perfection:  At he start of a new cheerleading season two ultra-competitive moms try to get their daughter on Alisha Dunlap's elite team in the season premiere (10 p.m. TLC).


A Home for the Holidays With Rascal Flatts: The country-music group hosts the annual special, showcasing stories of adoption from foster care. "The X Factor" alum Rachel Crow performs and also talks about her own experience. Melissa Etheridge — who is an adoptive parent — Matchbox Twenty and Phillip Phillips are among the performers (8 p.m. CBS).

The 2012 Miss Universe Competition: Andy Cohen and Giuliana Rancic host the 61st annual competition from Las Vegas (8 p.m. NBC).

The Year With Katie Couric: This new special recaps notable stories and personalities of the last 12 months. Expect to hear about Hurricane Sandy, the events that led Gen. David Petraeus to resign from his CIA job and the school shootings in Newtown, Conn. (9:30 p.m. ABC).


Pro basketball: The Brooklyn Nets visit the New York Knicks (4 p.m. ESPN); the Milwaukee Bucks visit the Memphis Grizzlies (6:30 p.m. ESPN); the New Orleans Hornets visit the Clippers (7:30 p.m. FS Prime).
