Badger Pass Ski Area, which opened to cross-country skiers and snowshoers… (Chris Falkenstein )
Badger Pass Ski Area in Yosemite National Park partly opened last weekend for cross-country skiers and snowshoers after a winter storm dumped more than a foot of snow in the area. Since then, more storms brought enough snow for it to open Friday for downhill skiers and snowboarders, though the tubing park remains closed.
Also as of Friday, visitors will be able to take a free shuttle from the park's lodges to the ski area.
The deal: Here are some of the savings to be had this season at Badger Pass:
--Two for Tuesday offers two adult lift tickets for the price of one ($47) starting Jan. 22 through March 19.
--Members of the military receive free lift tickets, rentals and group lessons at the ski resort, and their immediate family members get a 50% discount. The offer is good the entire winter season.
--Stay 'n' Play Package is available to guests at Yosemite hotels who stay Mondays through Fridays. It includes a lift ticket and equipment rental, group ski or snowboarding lesson, tubing session, a two-hour tour of Yosemite Valley and ice skating. The add-on package costs $50 per adult and $30 per child. The deal is good through March 29; holidays and other blackout dates apply.
Tested: I found availability for a room with two queen beds at Yosemite Lodge at the Falls for Jan. 23. Room price is $223 plus tax, and guests are eligible to buy the add-on activity package.
