This past weekend in Barbados, Rihanna was giving, and then she was nearly receiving — an unwanted visit from a swim-up stranger.
The Barbadian pop star marked Saturday with a ceremony to commemorate her gift of $1.75 million worth of medical equipment to the island's Queen Elizabeth Hospital in honor of her grandmother, who died in June. The hospital's radiotherapy unit was renamed Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, recognizing Riri's "Gran Gran Dolly," who succumbed to cancer.
"This was my way of giving back to Barbados in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program," the singer said, according to the Stabroek News out of Guyana.
"I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend it. ... Thank you. I’m really excited about it."
