Tiger Woods outlasted Bo Van Pelt on the back nine at Congressional on Sunday to win the AT&T Invitational, winning for the third time in his last seven tournaments dating to late March.
So does that make Woods the hottest golfer on the planet right now?
A couple of years ago that would have been a silly question. He was clearly the best golfer in the world and held that status for a very long time.
A couple of months ago it also would have been a silly question but for a much different reason. Woods' widely publicized fall from grace included a career-long victories drought and a drop out of the top 50 in the world standings.
Van Pelt has his own opinion on the matter.
“I think he's the only guy to win three tournaments on tour this year, is that correct?” Van Pelt said of Woods, who is back up to No. 4 in the world. “On three different courses. And he was leading the U.S. Open after two days. So I'd say that he's playing the best golf in the world right now.”
