Letters: Going cashless

July 12, 2012

Re "Congress preparing for a 'cashless society,'" July 9

The coming "cashless society" might be a step in the direction away from our constant preoccupation with the senseless accumulation of money.

In the past we have been so concerned with how much dirty green paper we amass. Presently it is a bit different in that we are now concerned with numbers in a checkbook or a bank account. These numbers get big and we are happy; they get small and we are tense. They are just numbers, but we base much of our serenity on these abstractions.
