Christian Borle won the Tony Award for featured actor in a play for "Peter and the Starcatcher," beating out Andrew Garfield for his role in the recent revival of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman."
"Starcatcher" is a quasi-prequel to "Peter Pan"and is based on the book by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and was adapted for the stage by Rick Elice. Borle, who also appears in the NBC series "Smash," plays the role of Black Stache in the show.
"Starcatcher" was produced at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2009. The show is categorized by the Tony organizers as a play, even though it features musical sequences and was nominated for original score.
Garfield had been a favorite to win the award for featured actor in a play, and his presence brought considerable Hollywood star power to Sunday's ceremony at the Beacon Theatre.
