Action sports superstar Shaun White will not be competing at X Games Los Angeles 2012, which will be held later this month in downtown L.A., from June 28-July 1.

White's publicist Samantha Hill of WTK Public Relations confirmed Friday that White has decided to sit out the premier action sports event. No specific reason for his absence was indicated.

Many fans were hoping the 25-year-old White, one of the biggest names in all of action sports, would return to summer X Games to defend the Skateboard Vert gold medal he won last year in a close contest with Pierre-Luc Gagnon.

Gagnon has won Skateboard Vert three times and is expected to compete in the event this year.
