Healthcare advocates in Los Angeles cheered Thursday's Supreme Court ruling upholding President Obama's Affordable Care Act at a local rally.

Under a blistering sun outside LAC-USC Medical Center, advocates with the group, Health Care for America Now, lauded the decision.

The ruling is "a tremendous victory for American families," said Vanessa Aramayo, executive director of California Partnership, a coalition of advocacy groups.

Healthcare coverage is a "moral obligation" and today, "the highest court in the land confirmed that principle."

The group is allied with Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, Health Access and Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, among others.

"Today the Supreme Court made the right call," said Bob Schoonover, president of the labor group, SEIU 721.

Other speakers, like Risa Kahn, spoke of their relief at the passage. Kahn told those gathered about her struggles securing insurance for her pre-existing condition.

In its decision, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in upholding the healthcare law. Opponents vowed to press on and attempt to repeal the law.
