The new Disney Fantasy's March 31 cruise is sold out but there are cabins… (Disney Cruise Line )
The Disney Fantasy's first cruise on March 31 is sold out, but fans who want to experience the newest Disney ship can still snag good deals on seven-night Caribbean cruises out of Florida in April. Sample prices: $2,042 for two.
The deal: The Disney Fantasy was christened March 1 in New York and arrived Tuesday in its Florida home port at Port Canaveral, Fla. Here are some of the lowest prices I found for those who want to get onboard this spring:
-- April 21 sailing from Port Canaveral to the Eastern Caribbean spends three days at sea and stops at St. Maartin, St. Thomas/St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Disney-operated island Castaway Cay before returning to Florida. An outside stateroom for two passengers starts at $2,042 with tax and fees.
-- April 28 sailing from Port Canaveral to the Western Caribbean spends two days at sea and stops at Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands; Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico; the Disney-operated Castaway Cay before returning to Florida. An outside stateroom for two passengers starts at $2,042 with tax and fees.
When: Prices cited are for April 21 and 28 sailings.
Tested: I checked online Tuesday at the Disney Cruise Line website for April 21 and 28 sailings on the Fantasy and found availability for the outside stateroom with restrictions (the fine print is on the website). The cabin is described as having one or two portholes.
As a price comparison, the $2,042 outside staterooms on those sailing dates were cheaper than prices for inside staterooms on the same dates and about $500 cheaper than the same cabins on a Fantasy cruise on April 14. Of course, airfare to and from Florida is extra.
Bottom line: The cost of experiencing the new Fantasy pencils out to about $146 per person per day for transportation, meals and entertainment.
