Danica Patrick's NASCAR race was cut short Saturday when her car suffered engine failure in the Nationwide Series race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
Patrick's No. 7 Chevrolet suddenly slowed on Lap 64 of the 150-lap Royal Purple 300.
After starting 21st, Patrick had slipped to 23rd in the 43-car field and was one lap down to the leaders when she lost the engine.
"I got some debris in the front grille at some point" that caused a radiator leak that damaged the engine, Patrick said.
"We were just trying to work with the car and get back on the lead lap," she said. "It would have been nice to do well here in California. You just go on to the next [race]."
