The iconic Matterhorn Bobsled ride at Disneyland has been closed for a six-month renovation and is scheduled to reopen June 15.

The overhaul is the first top-to-bottom construction project of the 147-foot-tall peak since it was built in 1959.

Through the use of time-lapse photography, Disney released a video Wednesday that shows workers wrapping the snow-dusted summit in scaffolding and then removing the scaffolding again in only 47 seconds.

Disney officials said they plan no significant changes to the ride itself.

But when it reopens, the ride will sport shiny new bobsleds and a fresh coat of paint on the mountain. A permit filed with the city of Anaheim describes the work as a $1-million project including "station gates replacement, queue modifications and themed lighting replacement."

The renovated Matterhorn is scheduled to open on the same day that Disney's adjacent California Adventure Park unveils its $1.1-billion expansion, which includes a new 12-acre Carsland and a remodeled Main Street.

Carsland features three rides, restaurants, shops and background scenery taken from the popular animated movies "Cars" and "Cars 2," produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios. The main entrance to the park has been remodeled to resemble 1920s Los Angeles, complete with red car trolleys.
