A rafting trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho isn't just about the water. Yes, there are about 100 rapids to shoot, but there's also time to take a dip in a hot spring, learn the history of the area and hike in canyons along the way. For rafting fans, Mountain Travel Sobek sweetens the pot this summer with a two-for-one promotion for a limited time on six-day trips.

The trip, available on nine departure dates, begins in Stanley, where participants take a bus ride to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area and put in to the river. During the day, you have the option of  rafting the easy way (in a boat with guides doing the rowing) or the adventurous way (paddling the rapids in a smaller boat with a guide). Rafts cover about 15 to 19 miles a day, with time to watch for wildlife and explore the landscape.

The deal: The Buy One Get One promotion would work for families seeking a cool summer getaway. Use the promotion code "MiddleFork241" when making a reservation to get the discount.

When: Trips depart June 5, 14 and 23; July 1, 9, 17 and 25 and Aug. 2 and 10. Reservations must be made by June 1.

Price: Starting at $1,050 per person, based on double occupancy. It includes the rafting trip, guided hikes and history lectures, meals and wines, and more. Transportation to and from Idaho is extra.
