Talent showcase at Southern Section track and field championships

Standout athletes from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Simi Valley, Long Beach Poly and Harvard-Westlake compete Saturday at Mount SAC.

The Southern Section track and field championships will be held Saturday at Mount San Antonio College, with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m. and running events at 1 p.m.

Sprinter Khalfani Muhammad of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, the second-place finisher in the state 100 and 200 last year, will be trying to win his first section title in the Division 3 100 and 200.

There are lots of standouts in the boys' and girls' ranks, including Gardena Serra sophomore long jumper Adoree Jackson and Simi Valley sophomore distance star Sarah Baxter.

The Harvard-Westlake running duo of Amy Weissenbach and Cami Chapus will be trying to lead the Wolverines to a girls' team title in Division 3.

Loyola sprinter Morgan Simon will be the key athlete trying to push the Cubs to a Division 2 title.

Long Beach Poly's boys' and girls' teams will be contenders in Division I.
