Thanksgiving week is finally here! A time to completely forget about your diet, splurge on all your holiday favorites, nap, then eat all over again. During Monday morning's #weekendeats chat, participants were already getting in the Thanksgiving spirit, sharing recipes and photos of everything from sides with a twist to sweet treats for dessert. Here are the highlights:
Blogger Susan Orlins offered some classic recipes for corn pudding and southern creamed corn, while other participants shared less conventional ideas for side dishes and appetizers. For a fun starter, the blog Grab a Plate shared a recipe for butternut squash, spinach and mushroom quesadillas.
It's no surprise to see baked potatoes on a Thanksgiving table spread but Darlen from the blog My Burning Kitchen came up with an alternative version she calls S.S. Spud. The potatoes are double baked and stuffed with shrimp and cheese.
The blog 2sense-la.com found a way to get bacon on the table with the baked apples stuffed with bacon, cheddar and sage crumbs.
And for dessert, Daisy from the blog Daisy's World shared a festive white chocolate bark. Meghan of the blog Buttercream Blondi created her take on the classic cheesecake with a pumpkin goat cheese cheesecake, and Jenn from Just Jenn Recipes brought Charlie Brown to the Thanksgiving table. Jenn put Snoopy's Thanksgiving meal of buttered toast, pretzels, popcorn and jellybeans into cupcake form with her Charlie Brown Thanksgiving cupcakes.
