Jon Bon Jovi addresses daughter Stephanie Bongiovi's heroin OD

November 21, 2012|By Christie D'Zurilla

Jon Bon Jovi has addressed his daughter Stephanie Bongiovi's recent heroin overdose, calling the incident "human" and expressing appreciation for fans' concern.

Bongiovi, 19, was arrested a week ago at her Hamilton College dorm after an overdose was reported. She was charged with misdemeanor drug offenses, but the charges were quickly dropped under a New York state law granting immunity to those involved when official help is sought during a life-threatening overdose.

"It's human," Bon Jovi told Fox 11 on Tuesday night while promoting the soundtrack to "Stand Up Guys." He went on to say that although being a rock star might seem glamorous, it's ultimately just another way to make a living. "And then life goes on. Things happen.

"This tragedy was something that I had to face too so we'll get through it. And people's warm wishes for my family and I have been really reassuring. So, we're good."

Bon Jovi, a New Jersey native, is one of the celebrities joining the advisory board of the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, a nonprofit launched by the state's  first lady, Mary Pat Christie, CBS News reported. The board also will include Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Ripa, Kevin Jonas and Dr. Mehmet Oz. The charity aims to help with long-term relief efforts in the wake of the superstorm.

Bon Jovi and Springsteen are scheduled to perform at the 12-12-12 concert at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 12 to benefit Sandy relief.
