President Obama will be a guest on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” next Thursday, Comedy Central announced Friday. It will be Obama’s second visit to the show since he took office and his sixth overall.

The appearance is scheduled for just two days after Tuesday's second presidential debate. Host Stewart, like many other pundits, was fiercely critical of the president’s lackluster performance in the first debate against Mitt Romney, and with the various missteps his campaign has made since -- especially a mocking ad featuring Big Bird.

No matter how well Obama does in the second debate, there’s little doubt he and Stewart will have plenty to talk about and that the appearance could help Obama rally his base in what’s proving to be a tight race with Romney.

Obama hasn’t been on “The Daily Show” since the eve of the midterm elections in October  2010, but he’s spent time on other sofas since then. In the last few months alone, he’s visited “The Late Show With David Letterman,” “The View,” and “Late Night.”
