That crowded Dodgers 40-man roster was made a tad smaller Friday when the Dodgers outrighted reliever Blake Hawksworth and outfielder Matt Angle to triple-A Albuquerque.
Hawksworth has had a tough go, missing all of last season with three surgeries. He had a pair of elbow surgeries before the 2012 season, then while rehabbing this summer he injured his shoulder and needed additional surgery.
Hawksworth, who technically had to be activated from the 60-day disabled list before being outrighted, had capsular repair and labral debridement in his right shoulder on Aug. 22. The Dodgers said his recovery time from the shoulder surgery is one year.
He pitched in the 2011 season for the Dodgers after coming over from the Cardinals in the off-season for infielder Ryan Theriot. He proved a fairly useful middle reliever, pitching well for the first two-thirds of the season.
