Arizona 39, USC 36 (final)

A last-ditch try be USC -- one more pass toward Marqise Lee -- didn’t get the job done for 10th-ranked USC, which has fallen in Tucson, Ariz.

USC took over at its own 13-yard line with 55 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and the Trojans were on the move when they ran out of time.

Quarterback Matt Barkley completed a pass to Silas Redd for a 13-yard gain, connected with Lee for a 15-yard gain, then went back to Redd for 11 more yards.

But his next pass toward Lee down the left sideline took a long time to develop and fell incomplete.

That left USC with only five seconds and the ball on the Arizona 48.

Barkley got off a Hail Mary pass as time expired, but Lee couldn’t come up with it in a crowd of three Arizona defenders, though he got his fingers on it.

Arizona 39, USC 28 (5:36 left in the fourth quarter)

Undisciplined play continues to be a problem for USC, which looks like it will finally pay a price for it.

Matt Scott connected with David Richards on a seven-yard scoring pass to give the Wildcats a double-digit lead over the No. 9-ranked Trojans.

The scoring drive was fueled by a personal foul penalty against USC safety T.J. McDonald, who hit Scott in the head while he was on the ground after a scramble.

The penalty gave Arizona a first down on the USC nine-yard line.

Three plays later, the Wildcats were in the end zone.

USC has been penalized 13 times for 117 yards.
