Wide receiver Mike Thomas was traded from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Detroit Lions for an undisclosed draft pick on Tuesday -- and guess which two teams are playing each other on Sunday?
You think things might get a little uncomfortable in Jacksonville this weekend?
After all, it couldn’t have been the most pleasant of breakups. Thomas had recently been passed by a rookie and a second-year player on the Jaguars’ depth chart and also lost his job as the team’s primary punt returner.
All this comes just a year after Thomas signed a three-year, $18-million extension, including $9 million guaranteed, with the Jaguars.
That followed what appeared to be a breakout season in 2010, during which Thomas caught 66 passes for 820 yards and four touchdowns and returned 34 punts for 358 yards and one touchdown.
But last year he made 44 catches for 415 yards and one touchdown and returned 19 punts for 88 yards. And he has just 13 receptions for 80 yards and eight punt returns for 56 yards this season.
