The rich are apparently about to get richer. And we're not talking about Mitt Romney's proposed tax cuts.
The Galaxy, the defending Major League Soccer champion and the league's hottest team over the last three months, is nearing a deal with Swedish international Christian Wilhelmsson.
Wilhelmsson, a winger who played in a World Cup and three European Championships for Sweden, has been training with the team. A team spokesman Sunday denied an Internet report that the Galaxy and Wilhelmsson had already reached a deal but said his signing appear to be imminent.
"It's closer to be done than not," he said.
The MLS transfer window closes Sept. 14, which is when the Galaxy plays its next game. The team is 10-3-2 since early June, entering Sunday three points out of second place in the MLS' Western Conference.
