"Randy Rhoads" is a biography of the late rock guitar virtuoso… (Neal Preston )
Come on feel the noise at Book Soup this week as Grover Jackson, president of GJ2 Guitars, gives away the first guitar in his new line during a book-signing event for “Randy Rhoads” by Andrew Klein and Steven Rosen.
The event coincides with the 30th anniversary of Rhoads' tragic death at age 25 in a plane crash in Florida in 1982. The rock guitarist, best known for his neo-classical stylings, played with metal band Quiet Riot and Ozzy Osbourne recording such hits “Crazy Train” and “Flying High Again.”
The 400-page biography is filled with hundreds of rare photographs and memorabilia. 50 limited-edition posters of Rhoads will also be given away at the only book signing scheduled in Southern California this year.
In keeping with the 1980s flashback theme, former brat packer and darling of director John Hughes teen-angst comedies Molly Ringwald will be discussing her debut novel, “When It Happens to You,” a collection of interlinked stories dealing with betrayal, infertility and the complexities of modern relationships. She tapped out the title story on her cellphone during down time on set.
Los Angeles Times columnist Megan Daum joins Ringwald at Track 16 at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica (part of Live Talks L.A. series) on Wednesday.
