Kevin Ogletree takes N.Y. Giants, fantasy owners by surprise

September 06, 2012|By Chuck Schilken

Ogletree was a two-time All-ACC honorable mention who had 10 touchdowns in three seasons at Virginia. He made the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2009 but had done little to distinguish himself in his three years with the team, fumbling the ball three times and scoring no touchdowns with just 25 receptions.

Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football currently lists the receiver as "owned" in 32% of its leagues, although its hard to tell how many of those owners will actually start him in Week 2. Just a hunch, but it will probably be more than the 0% that did this week, following his eight catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns to help the Cowboys defeat the defending Super Bowl champs, 24-17, in a nationally televised game.

But we fantasy owners shouldn't feel too stupid for ignoring Ogletree -- apparently the Giants defenders did the same thing. He was wide open on both his touchdown receptions, from 10 and 40 yards out, even as he was clearly becoming a favorite target of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

I'd love to continue raving about Ogletree, but I've got to get back to scouring the list of available fantasy players. Wouldn't want to get caught napping on the likes of Michael Hoomanawanui or Devin Aromashodu, now would I?
