Gap has teamed up with GQ magazine's best new menswear designers in America to launch a limited-edition collection for men. The collection, which includes boxer briefs, accessories and outerwear, is slated to launch in stores and online Sept. 27.
The designers -- in some cases, design teams -- include Johan Lindeberg of BLK DNM; Ian Velardi; Mark McNairy New Amsterdam; twin brothers Ariel and Shimon Ovadia of Ovadia & Sons; Morgan Collett, Josh Rosen and Colin Tunstall of Saturday's NYC; and Todd Snyder. Each was chosen by GQ's best new menswear designers in America project, started in 2007 in an effort to bring attention to new American menswear designers. GQ Editor in Chief Jim Nelson, Creative Director Jim Moore and other fashion editors at the magazine chose the winners.
Each designer put his own twist on Gap's classic menswear pieces. Saturday's NYC created hats, sweatshirts and tees, all adorned with a big white ampersand. Ovadia & Sons designed a cozy, chunky gray cardigan and Todd Snyder brought back camouflage with a camo tee. The collection ranges in price from $20 (boxer briefs) to $348 (leather bomber jackets).
In addition to the collection hitting stores at the end of the month, the six designers and their Gap capsule collections will be featured in a 14-page advertising insert in the October 2012 issue of GQ.
