Watch explosive action (literally) at soccer match in Iran

September 20, 2012|By Chuck Schilken

Play was stopped after debris apparently was thrown onto the field. Kolahkaj casually picked up a small, black object and tossed it out of the way.

Just seconds after it left the player's hand, the object exploded. The broadcaster in the video above calls the explosive a "live hand grenade" while other reports have referred to it as a firecracker.

No one was hurt during the incident and play eventually continued. Apparently the incident provided most of the excitement in the match, which ended in a scoreless tie.

Police are investigating the incident.
