The NFL fined Patriots Coach Bill Belichick $50,000 Wednesday for “impermissible physical contact with an official” during a game on Sunday.

Belichick grabbed a replacement referee's arm and berated him following the Patriots' 31-30 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

The NFL does not allow contact with officials.

Before the fine the was announced, Belichick told reporters Wednesday that he would "respect" whatever the league decided to do.

The fine was announced amid Internet reports that the NFL and the referees are close to coming to an agreement

L.A. Times football reporter Sam Farmer, however, spoke to a source within the NFL Referees Assn. who said the sides are not on the verge of an agreement.
