Food & Wine magazine has announced its picks for best new chefs of 2013, and Los Angeles-based Michael Voltaggio of ink. is among the winners.
According to the Food & Wine website, Voltaggio was honored "because his modernist cuisine pushes boundaries — he’ll serve octopus over buttered-popcorn puree — but it is still delicious."

Voltaggio isn't exactly new to the food scene in Los Angeles, but to be eligible, chefs must be in charge of a kitchen for five or fewer years.

For the last 25 years, Food & Wine magazine has honored up-and-coming culinary talent with its Best New Chefs Awards. This year's winners will be honored at a dinner at Pranna in New York on Tuesday. The full list of winners:

Past best new chefs winners include Michael Symon of Lola, Wylie Dufrensne of WD-50, Grant Achatz of Alinea, Scott Conant of Scarpetta restaurants, April Bloomfield of the Spotted Pig and Dan Kluger of ABC Kitchen, all of whom will prepare dishes for Tuesday's awards dinner.
