Mike Magee was named the MLS player of the month after the Galaxy forward scored a league-best five goals in March.

It's the first time Magee, 28, has won the monthly award in his 11-year career in Major League Soccer.

"I have had a successful start to the season and, more importantly, so has our team," Magee said in a statement. The Galaxy's record is 2-0-2.

Magee scored three goals in the Galaxy's season-opening 4-0 win over the Chicago Fire on March 3, then scored the game-winning goal in the Galaxy's 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on March 23.

He also scored a goal in the Galaxy's 2-2 tie with Toronto FC last Saturday.

The Galaxy take a break from the MLS schedule on Wednesday night to open their two-leg semifinal match against Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions League. The game at Home Depot Center starts at 7 p.m.
