Groper on a bicycle strikes again in Long Beach; police seek help

April 09, 2013|By Ruben Vives

The Long Beach Police Department is seeking help from the public to identify a man who rides a bicycle through the city, groping women and girls.

Authorities said the incidents began in September and paused in December, when the attacks were made public and video footage of one of the attacks was released.

But in the last two months, six new incidents have been reported in the downtown and East Village areas.

The victims vary in age from 12 years to their mid-60s. All of them were walking on the sidewalk when a bicyclist rode behind them and grabbed their buttocks or breasts as he passed them.

Police posted a recent video of a bicycle rider believed to be responsible for the incidents, and asked for help in identifying him. Due to varying descriptions of the bicycle used in the attacks, police believe he owns more than one.

Authorities are looking for the victim of a March 25 attack that occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on 4th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Police say the victim left before they could speak to her.

Police are asking any victims of such attacks who have not reported them, or anyone who recognizes the person in the video, to contact Det. Louis Galvan at (562) 570-6407.

Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling (800) 222-TIPS or texting TIPLA followed by your tip to CRIMES (274637).
