Dave Alvin and a slew of other veterans of the Southern California blues and roots music communities, including Junior Watson, James Harman and the Mike Eldred Trio, will gather Sunday at Café Fais Do Do in Los Angeles to salute harmonica ace John “Juke” Logan in a benefit for the American Institute for Cancer Research.
Logan has been contending with esophageal cancer on and off since 2009, and proceeds from the show will be targeted toward research on that strain of cancer.
The lineup for A Rock N Rollin’ Lovefest and Fundraiser for Esophageal Cancer Research includes the Delgado Brothers, the Rick Homstrom Band, the Bonedaddys, the Gary Allegretto Trio, King Cotton, Mojo Nixon with Joey Harris of the Beat Farmers, Buddy Zapata’s Junkshop Republic, Shawn Mafia & the Ten Cent Thrills and other guests.
The show gets under way at 2 p.m. and admission is $10. It also will be streamed live by Ustream.
After first being diagnosed in 2009, Logan appeared to be in remission last year, but later was told a tumor had reappared.
