Science and Food: On Thursday, Alice Waters of Chez Panisse and the Edible Schoolyard will be heading to UCLA where she, along with chef David Binkle, director of food services for the L.A. Unified School District, and Dr. Wendy Slusser, professor of pediatrics at UCLA, will discuss school lunches and edible gardens at “Edible Education,” the second event in UCLA’s "Science and Food" public lecture series. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. at Royce Hall Auditorium. Tickets are $25 and available online or at the UCLA Central Ticket Office. www.scienceandfood.org

Homemade condiments: Zach Negin of SoNo Trading Company will be leading a workshop on "Mustards, Sriracha and More" on Sunday at Poketo on 3rd Street in downtown L.A. Attendees will learn how to make -- and take home -- whole-grain mustard, sriracha, lacto-fermented ketchup and a vegan Worcestershire sauce. Eggs, which way?: On Saturday, chefs Andrea Cavaliere and Alessio Biangini of Cecconi’s in West Hollywood will be teaching a class on cooking eggs. Dishes to be made will include egg ravioli, poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and a lemon tart with meringue.
