It’s been four years since President George W. Bush left the White House, with the former commander in chief reentering the public eye with the dedication of his presidential library in Dallas on Thursday.

Bush’s time as a former president has been relatively quiet, with his newfound passion for painting sparking more headlines than his evaluations of his successor, President Obama. He released his memoir, “Decision Points,” in 2010 and co-founded the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund to help those suffering after the earthquake that year.

Though he spearheaded education reform and attempted to push through significant Social Security changes during his second term, Bush’s tenure was largely defined by his handling of the country’s response to the Sept. 11 attacks.

Beginning with the Oct. 7, 2001, invasion of Afghanistan to root out those responsible for the terrorist attacks, the Bush administration found itself tangling with a persistent Taliban insurgency.

The subsequent invasion of Iraq on March 20, 2003, was mired in controversy as antiwar advocates questioned the administration’s motives. The U.S. ended military operations there in December 2011.

With Bush’s presidential library being dedicated Thursday and its grand opening set for May 1, test your mental mettle below with a quiz on Bush-era trivia. Find out which novel influenced his position on stem cell research and whether Bush shares anything in common with Rutherford B. Hayes.
