April 27, 2013|By Tony Perry

SAN DIEGO -- A San Diego police officer early Saturday shot and killed a woman suspected of attacking her two sons and her boyfriend, authorities said.

The woman, whose name and age were not disclosed, charged at the officer with a knife held above her head, according to Lt. Jorge Duran of the San Diego Police Department.

The officer, a five-year veteran whose name was not released, had responded to an emergency call after midnight in the Bay Terraces neighborhood.

The woman was suspected of stabbing her 9-year-old son with a knife and hitting her 15-year-old son in the head with a vase, Duran said. The two were taken to a hospital.

The woman was located outside the home with a large kitchen knife and was threatening two men, Duran said. She was ordered several times to watch the knife, but instead charged at the officer, Duran said.

Officers and paramedics rendered medical aid but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
