No Hard Rock Hotels in Europe? Hard to believe, considering the iconic brand started as a London cafe more than four decades ago.

Now Hard Rock International is moving back toward home turf to rock the Mediterranean resort island of Ibiza off the coast of Spain.

"With our existing European presence of more than 40 years and 32 Hard Rock Cafes, we look forward to establishing our first Hard Rock Hotel in the region," Josh Littman, the company's director of development for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said in a statement Wednesday.

The company has partnered with Palladium Hotel Group to redo some existing hotels into a single property with more than 480 rooms. It's expected to open in May. Amenities will include a Rock Spa, Body Rock gym, kids club, teen hangout and beach club.

And of course, there will be live music and DJ performances in a main pool stage area, which can accommodate 2,500 guests.

Hard Rock operates 17 hotels worldwide, including ones in Las Vegas and San Diego, and has plans to open others in places from Haikou, China, to Palm Springs. The empire began in 1971 when Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton were on a quest to find a good American burger in London, and it has evolved into an empire with 174 cafes, hotels and casinos in 54 countries.

No word yet on how much rooms will cost.
