Joe McKnight’s New York Jets training camp has gone from strange to scary.

The former USC running back, who has been recovering from a head injury, reportedly was transported to the locker room Monday after dropping to the field during a drill. He was wearing an oxygen mask as he was taken from the field.

Simply getting to the field Monday was a chore for McKnight, who took a knee three times while walking to the SUNY Cortland soccer field. A trainer met him with water after he knelt a third time.

McKnight eventually got to the practice field, where he wore a non-contact jersey, but he wasn’t there for long. He dropped a pass during a 1-on-1 drill and fell to the ground. Trainers attended to him before he slowly walked off the field and made it to a cart.

Earlier in camp, McKnight failed a conditioning test – Coach Rex Ryan later attributed that to an anxiety issue – and was arrested for failure to pay traffic tickets.

McKnight, a fourth-round pick of the Jets in 2010, left USC a year early and under scrutiny for violating NCAA rules.
