Andrew Lloyd Webber was hospitalized Thursday in England to undergo a medical procedure on his back, but by Friday morning tweeted that he had returned to work on his new musical.

"Thank you for all the kind messages re my back op yesterday. Very happy to be working on @SWardMusical today and feeling much better. ALW."

"Stephen Ward" is scheduled to open in December on London's West End. The show is about a figure in the 1963 Profumo scandal in England.

The composer, who has recently been in poor health, tweeted Thursday, "In hospital today having my 12th general anaesthetic in 8 months."

The 65-year-old composer has recently experienced a series of health problems: In 2011 he had hip replacement surgery, and in 2009 he announced he had prostate cancer. (He has since recovered).

Lloyd Webber in June had to cancel an appearance at the 2013 Tonys explaining on his website that he was in "constant pain" following treatments on his thigh.

"As a consequence I have undergone countless medical procedures and two major back operations," he said.

Lloyd Webber's well-known stage musicals include "Evita," "Cats," "Phantom of the Opera" and "Jesus Christ Superstar."
