Football: Corona Centennial, Santa Margarita tune up

August 24, 2013|By Eric Sondheimer

There were lots of scrimmages on Thursday and Friday, and one of the most competitive was Corona Centennial taking on Santa Margarita.

Centennial's Tre Watson rushed for nearly 100 yards. Santa Margarita's Jeremy McNichols had 106 yards rushing and one touchdown. Sophomore quarterback KJ Costello passed for 177 yards and one touchdown.

Crespi held Pasadena to two first downs in its scrimmage. First-year Coach Troy Thomas said running back Armani Cook and linebacker Michael Mason were standouts. The Celts still haven't made a decision about their quarterback position. Westlake transfer Wes Massett and returnee Conor McMahon continue to compete.

Narbonne was aggressive and fast in its scrimmage against Chaminade. New quarterback Eban Jackson is learning the Gauchos' offense. Sophomore receiver Dymond Lee had a big play for Chaminade, which opens against Venice on Friday. Narbonne plays at Palos Verdes on Thursday.

Gardena Serra was in dominant form against Long Beach Poly. Alemany suffered a key injury in its scrimmage against Hart. Deyon Glass, a linebacker who missed much of last season with a knee injury, went down again. Hart put up three touchdowns on the Warriors.
