December 17, 2013

Josh Smith scored 30 points, Greg Monroe had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and the Detroit Pistons handed Indiana its first home loss of the season Monday night, stunning the Pacers, 101-96.

The Pistons won for the second time in six games, ended a six-game skid in the series and ended a nine-game losing streak in Indianapolis.

Lance Stephenson had a season-high 23 points, and Luis Scola scored 13 of his season-best 18 in the fourth quarter for Indiana (20-4), whose 11-0 start at home was the best in franchise history. Oklahoma City is the only NBA team still unbeaten at home, with a 12-0 record.

Detroit had a 55-40 rebounding edge and consistently outscored the Pacers in the paint.

Indiana tied the score four times and got as close as 96-94 late in the fourth quarter.

Washington 102, at New York 101: Bradley Beal's driving layup with six seconds remaining won it for the Wizards. Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points for the Knicks but missed a three-point attempt as time expired after dribbling almost the length of the court.

at Miami 117, Utah 94: LeBron James finished with 30 points, nine rebounds and nine assists despite missing part of the second half after twisting his left ankle, and Dwyane Wade scored 27 points as the Heat rolled to its 17th straight victory over a Western Conference opponent, the second-longest regular-season streak by an Eastern Conference team in NBA history. Boston won 20 straight against the West during a nine-month span of 1973.

at Boston 101, Minnesota 97: Jared Sullinger had 24 points and 11 rebounds, and his tiebreaking three-pointer with 2:22 left helped Celtics hold off the Timberwolves and hold on to first place in the Atlantic Division despite a 12-14 record that would be 12th-best in the West. Boston has won five of seven.

at Brooklyn 130, Philadelphia 94: Joe Johnson made 10 three-pointers, most in the NBA this season, and scored a season-high 37 points as the Nets handed the defenseless 76ers their seventh consecutive loss. Philadelphia has lost 11 in a row on the road. Johnson finished 10 for 14 from beyond the arc, including eight for 10 during an impressive third-quarter shooting performance.

Orlando 83, at Chicago 82: Arron Afflalo scored 23 points and Glen Davis and Nikola Vucevic combined for 24 points and 21 rebounds for the Magic. The Bulls have lost five of six games.
