Condoleezza Rice, the former secretary of State during President George W. Bush's administration, found out what a lot of amateur golfers do when playing at Pebble Beach during the annual pro-am tournament: No matter how far the fans are from the fairway, they're always in play.
Rice hit a wayward shot at the sixth hole on Thursday during the first round of the event and it went toward another fairway, striking a woman in the face and causing a bloody cut that required medical attention and left the spectator with concussion-like symptoms.
"Did I hit you?" Rice was heard asking the women, who preferred to remain anonymous. "It was a bad shot. I’m really sorry."
The former secretary of State had an assistant get the woman's phone number so she could find out about her condition after the round.
