The casting hole created by Shia LaBeouf's abrupt departure from the Broadway revival of "Orphans" has been filled. Ben Foster will take the role of Treat, one of two brothers who hatch a plan to kidnap a prominent older man, played by Alec Baldwin.
A spokeswoman for the production said Foster is expected to begin rehearsals Friday. This will be his Broadway debut.
Foster appeared in the 2006 movie "X-Men: The Last Stand" as well as the HBO series "Six Feet Under," and has starred in a number of independent films, most notably "The Messenger" and "3:10 to Yuma."
LaBeouf's departure from the play was announced Wednesday, with the official reason given as "creative differences." The actor later tweeted a series of email correspondences that suggest he had clashed with Baldwin during the rehearsal process.
One of the emails was from director Daniel Sullivan, while another was from British actor Tom Sturridge, who was to play LaBeouf's brother in the play. Sturridge and Baldwin remain in the cast.
