Alex Smith is headed to Kansas City, the first major acquisition by the Chiefs since Andy Reid took over as coach.

A person with knowledge of the trade told the Associated Press on Wednesday that the Chiefs have agreed to a deal for the 2005 top overall draft pick, who lost his starting quarterback job in San Francisco to Colin Kaepernick last season.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade does not become official until March 12, when the NFL's new business year begins.

Another person familiar with the deal said the 49ers will get a second-round draft pick in April, No. 34 overall, and a conditional pick in the 2014 draft.

Grand jury doesn't indict Hunter's son

A Texas grand jury voted not to indict the 17-year-old son of former Angels outfielder Torii Hunter on felony sexual assault charges, and the case was dismissed Wednesday, according to John Schomburger, a Collin County assistant district attorney.

"This was the ultimate test for my family for the last nine months," Hunter, who signed a two-year, $26-million deal with the Detroit Tigers in November, said in a text message. "My son is a stronger person by going through this process. We're looking forward to restoring his good name."

Darius McClinton-Hunter, a Prosper High student and aspiring college football player, was arrested last May and charged with the sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony.

Hunter left the Angels for two weeks in May to tend to his son and family, and the case weighed heavily on the right fielder during a 2012 season in which he hit .313 with 16 home runs and 92 runs batted in. Darius was not allowed to attend classes at Prosper and was forced to enroll in an alternative school.

But according to Todd Shapiro, Hunter's lawyer, the girl who made the allegations against McClinton-Hunter reached out to a family friend of the Hunters and recanted her story a week after the incident. After an eight-month investigation, the grand jury determined there was not enough evidence against McClinton-Hunter to prosecute.

Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert and Golden State Warriors forward David Lee were each suspended a game without pay for starting an altercation during their game that drifted into the courtside seats.

Three other players were fined for the incident in the fourth quarter of Indiana's 108-97 home win Tuesday. Hibbert was ejected after the skirmish, which began when he and Lee exchanged shoves under the basket after a missed shot.

The NBA said that the Warriors' Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson and the Pacers' Lance Stephenson were fined $35,000 each.

Defending champion Roger Federer and top-seeded Novak Djokovic are on course to face each other in the Dubai Championships final in the United Arab Emirates after each moved into the quarterfinals with straight-set victories.

The world's two best players were joined by Juan Martin del Potro and Tomas Berdych, who also won in straight sets. Berdych saved 12 of 14 break points to beat Tobias Kamke, 7-5, 6-1, and Del Potro defeated Somdev Devvarman, 6-4, 6-4.

Djokovic beat Roberto Bautista-Agut of Spain, 6-1, 7-6 (4), and Federer beat Marcel Granollers, 6-3, 6-4.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez backed off participating as a May4 undercard fighter to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Alvarez's promoter announcing the Mexican star will fight Austin Trout in a super-welterweight title unification bout April 20, probably in San Antonio.

Alvarez, 22, wanted Mayweather to sign a contract stipulating that the next fight after his welterweight title defense at MGM Grand in Las Vegas versus Robert Guerrero would be against Alvarez.

Mayweather declined and Alvarez jumped ship.
