Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky, who would've thought?

Not that the 12th-ranked golfer in the world and the socialite daughter of the greatest hockey player ever are dating. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. But if the rumors about the two being romantically involved are true, the mere fact they are a couple wouldn't be the shocking part.

But the notion Johnson somehow managed to win the PGA Tournament of Champions on Tuesday despite the presence of his supposed sweetheart throughout the event ... well, that simply goes against everything we thought we knew about athletes and their sudden celebrity romances.

Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson? Matt Kemp and Rihanna? Mark Sanchez and Kate Upton? It's so easy to label a newfound love, particularly with someone beautiful and famous, as a "distraction."

Yet, here's a direct quote from the Associated Press about Johnson's four-stroke victory in Kapalua, Hawaii: "Paulina Gretzky, the daughter of hockey great Wayne Gretzky, was spotted with Johnson all week and watched from the gallery as he finished without drama at 16-under 203."

What do you think this means? Could it be we finally have an athlete with a well-known girlfriend who isn't thought of as a curse? Will Gretzky actually get some credit for Johnson's success?

Or perhaps it was just a fluke. Or, worse yet, maybe they really aren't dating at all. I guess we'll just have to somehow try to keep up with those two crazy kids and see how it all turns out. It won't be easy for us though -- can't imagine that there's going to be much coverage of a possible celebrity couple in the making.
